diesel from plant oil is better than having to rely on diesel from instable nations such as Nigeria. Not too many places left to find light sweet crude that can be refined well into good quality diesel. Esp. ULSD which is now required thanks to the GWB rules (one reason diesel prices have shot up and making everything in this country more expensive).

Day Of The Diesel - a quality built diesel engine is not like the engines from the past. Diesel engines from the past, smoked and stank very bad and now they are better built and cleaner running. Diesel has more energy (BTU’s) in the fuel and will get higher MPG than gasoline or CNG. The sulfur has been removed from diesel, so it does not stink like it did before. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using ‘other’ forms of transportation to help lower your cost. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

No matter what way you move government does everything to undermine good judgement. Diesel use to be inexpensive, now it is the most expensive fuel around.

Diesel get the job done.
With diesel usually considerably higher per gallon the mileage must be higher to make it affordable.
Probably will get into the US market in a big way -- if it is affordable.

Between the upfront cost of diesel engines and the higher cost of fuel it would take you many years to make up the difference.

Liberals hate diesel. Diesel is taxed higher. Production cost of gasoline have dropped, while refiners now have to scrub nearly all the sulphur out diesel.

diesel cost more than gas even though it's cheaper to make so the profit margin is higher for diesel than gas

Metro must be driving a hybrid. I like driving 80-85 and getting 40mpg, 45 at 70-75.

State and federal taxes are more, high demand for diesel and the variant of jet fuel and heating fuel in winter. Still a better deal due the greater btu rating per gallon vs gasoline/ethanol.

the real shame is diesel is cheaper to manufacture and needs less refining than standard gas and yet it cost more per gallon. Go figure

At 47 MPG on average, my cars beat diesels hands down. All on regular E10 gasoline. And no, that is not with ecomiling, that is with higher-than-the-speed-limit, stop-and-go driving.

Modern diesels are great engines - loads of torque even in small displacements, like VW's 2.0 TDI and older 1.8L TDI. Should appeal to Americans brought up on the torque of big V8s and 6's.

Notice everyone who has a diesel loves them, everyone who knows nothing about them dislikes them? The ones who drive them know the fuel costs more but they fill up less, so you folks who think diesel is so expensive are clueless to know that driven side by side to your gas powered cars, the guy with the diesel pays far less for fuel than you do.
I guess ignorance really is bliss!
